Motoko's origin[]
We learn that Motoko's parents had been researching how to avoid androids becoming dead ended obsoletes unable to upgrade when they died. Her mother was pregnant at the time and the unborn Motoko's was given a prosthetic body (much like her counterpart in the original films as opposed to the version in the Stand Alone Complex who was a small child in a plane crash).
Development[]
On September 5, 2014, it was revealed by Production I.G. that a new Ghost in the Shell animated film will be released in 2015 promising to show the "further evolution [of the series]".[4] On January 8, 2015, a short teaser trailer was revealed for the project unveiling a redesigned Major more closely resembling her appearance from the older films.[5]
